DIY: Yarn bracelets

Friendship bracelets are really cool. They can add a dash of color to any outfit and can make a bare wrist look awesome!

But you know what looks even cooler than string?
Yarn

A yarn bracelets are amazing. They make thicker, stronger, and a lot prettier wrist bands! Here are some I made:
(Not my hand)

When making a yarn bracelet, you can use any design that you would working with regular string. Personally, working with yarn is a lot easier for me! Try it!

Tip
Make sure you double tie each time and check that all your knots are very tight so your bracelet will hold together for a long time.

Have fun with it!

The magic 8 tools to being successful at fixing your messes!

Some basic items that you are going to need...

Please note that you will not need these for all projects, but they are just good to have around.Just in case. They are good for slip-ups or mistakes.

1.Glue Gun~It can fix any of your problems. It's the ultimate crafting tool. All you have to do is plug in and squirt.~Good to have around for breakage, tears, and creating sculptures!

2.Magazine/Newspaper~In general, you can do anything with this. You can cut it up and create something new. Also rolling and folding is fun too!

3.Elmer's Glue~Be original. You decide what to do with it.

4.Nail Polish~ It's the ultimate tool to making your nails look like you went to the salon. And make sure to always...always....always have clear base/top coat to seal the deal or else you will end up with a chipped mani/pedi and that is never good! If your a person who doesn't like nail polish that's cool. Just skip this item please.

5.Tape~OH MY GOSH! Tape is awesome and no...not for it's ability to tape stuff together. It is like laminating something. Clear Scotch packing tape makes it so easy to foe laminate something without having the trouble of going to and Fedex Kinkos and paying a ridiculous amount to laminate 1 piece of paper. Also, duck tape! Don't you forget about duct tape! It is an incredibly awesome tape that is not your everyday tape. It uses strong thread with sticky stuff to mend items. Recently, my art table has been broken and it could not hold anything without collapsing. I discovered it was because of a small crack. I fixed this by wrapping duck tape around the crack tightly and it worked!+

6.Paper~I don't even have to tell you. This one just describes it's self. Where there is a piece of paper, a pencil follows. Always...even in the next room over. ( I really hope you got that because that was said so I don't have to put the obvious on the list.)

7.Baking Ingredients~Flour, Water, Sugar, Milk, Eggs, Confectioners Sugar  etc...,etc...(varies on the recipe)

8.Faith, Trust, and Pixie Dust~Remember! Have faith in yourself and in your art. If you don't like it don't be mad get glad!

Feel free to add your own crafting tools to this list if thought necessary. These are just MY basics that I thought YOU could think useful. And if they aren't make your own list. Again please note that you will need more or less tools while doing a certain project. Some will be harder to find. I hoped you enjoyed my insights on my Magic 8 Tools. Thanks For Reading!

Happy Crafting!

Brighten Up Your Home With Not Only Color But Oxegen As Well!

--------------------------My beautiful cactus Allegra from Home Depot-------------------------
All of you out there may need a little something to boost up the level of brightness in your house. Maybe if it's a little drab and there aren't enough colors and you'd like to fix and change that. Recently, I bought a small cactus from Home Depot. Any Home Depot or garden store will have them. I thought cacti was a great way to do that especially since I don't have any house plants and they are easy to take care of. No watering is needed which is great! If I forget I can do it tomorrow. Watering is only needed in the hotter months.

RESEARCH THAT!

I did a little research while I was raising my cactus and found out from Health magazine that chemicals are created from material, furniture, and even air freshening items! And if you are paying money for those fresheners you are being scammed because all they do is make your home more toxic. Plants can freshen your home non-toxically!  Health Magazine states,“Houseplants give off oxygen and help remove chemicals like formaldehyde, a common indoor vapor that can cause respiratory and neurological problems, as well as cancer," they say. I bet you didn't know air toxins could create cancer (life threatening)!

Thus I came to a conclusion, which comes to show if you have a little more green you are more likely to live a happier and healthier life.

Happy Crafting!

DIY: Aztec and Splatter Paint Nails.Together?

NOTE: In order to create this beautiful nail art you need stripers and dotting tools.

Recently, meaning the other day I saw on Instagram a picture of an Aztec nail print. I figured I would try it. I couldn't be that bad at it. So I decided I would and I did. Comment on how I did please. I would like constructive criticism only.

STEP 1: Pick a solid color to be your base coat. I chose two colors. Even though you can't see it a lot, It may come in handy.

STEP 2: With your black striper draw a line from one end of the nail to the next.

STEP 3: This is where you can have a little fun. Pick a few colors that you think look good together, but make sure they are on the darker side of the color wheel with a more earthy feel.

STEP 4: Use the stripers and dotting tools to create and Aztec feel. I don't think giving so many steps is fun so feel free to step away from the boundaries of steps.

So basically what happened when I got to the other hand is that I realized I couldn't do all of this detail unless I was super talented with my left hand. So... what I did was I used the same colors for base at the other hand and went crazy.

STEP 1: Remember to use the same color for base.

STEP 2: Use your dotting tools with every neon bright color you have and press lightly onto your dries nail to create a splatter feel.

STEP 3: Go crazy with color. Because I didn't search this up or anything I think of this one as my own idea.

NOTE: In-between the base and additional steps just remember to let the base dry or else you will end up with really messy nails.

Happy Crafting!:)

DIY: Teach yourself piano

We all know that music is an art and piano is a form of music. There's a quick and easy way to teach yourself the basics of piano. I have been teaching myself with Alfred All in One Adult Piano Book. It teaches you how to read, play, and write notes. As well as that, it teaches you technique.
NOTE: Book introduces you to piano concepts.

Street art

Some times you may come across starving artist trying to sell their art. Well... that is what I found. I love this piece because it uses organic shapes to create a beautiful plaque. It is a wooden plaque with acrylic paints. The metallic copper paint is a very nice original color that compliments the green.

DIY: Collage a stool

I bet all of you crafters out there have some sort of table and chair for your artwork. The picture to the left is the table I have that includes a foe leather stool. Notice how it's all white and boring. Well... I had a small idea. What if I took my chair and decorated it similar to a scrap book, vision board, and laminated item? So what I did was I cut out pictures from magazines, placed them on the chair in the order I liked and then put packing tape over it. Viola!
STEP ONE: Okay... this step is so easy. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A STOOL THAT ALLOWS TAPE OVER IT! My stool looks like the one above or the one below.

STEP TWO: Cut out pictures from a magazine you like and place them on the stool a couple of different ways to see which ways you like best. I used Seventeen because I like fashion and nail art. The main picture in the middle is from a local newspaper.
STEP THREE: Use some packing tape to carefully cover the pictures. Wrap some tape around the sides as well. You will get a plastic like finish and a laminated like finish as well.

FINISHED PRODUCT: Make sure to keep some tape around because it will wear and tear every now and then. When it does do that just cover it up.

Let's just say...

Aside from being my usual crafty self I was being my productive, studious self. This side of me wrote some questions and had the author of another blog answer them. To find the blog go to: http://style-smashin.blogspot.com/.

1. Describe yourself.

I'm quirky and unusual, I will laugh at anything, and despite running a fashion blog I don't have brilliant taste on my own wardrobe choices. I love to experiment with anything, everything I do is just one huge experiment! I love learning new things and will sap up any knowledge you're willing to offer me ( which results in me knowing weird facts that nobody should ever know) I love to design and sew, I love chocolate and the Cookie Monster from Sesame Street.

2. What do you blog?

I say that I run a fashion blog... This is true in that I cover clothes and beauty, but I don't do runway stuff or what is currently on trend. I do less time efficient things (because I am not a time efficient person) and more general, 'make your own skirt' or 'I love these shoes' type things. In short, stuff.

3. What inspires you to blog what you blog? (basically what influences you?)

I was one of those annoying five year olds who just kept repeating 'why?' at every moment of the day! I love exploring in every sense, so almost anything can inspire me to write for my blog - one of the reasons my blog isn't quite dedicated to a specific topic. I have always had an interest in clothes, more so design, even if I haven't expressed it too well.
To keep it short, my inspiration is a mash up of my life - my blog is a piece of me, so everything I do comes into it.

4. How long have you been blogging for?

Just under a year, I do believe. I have learnt a lot in that time, both in how to blog well but also behind-the-scenes type stuff.

5. What do your friends and family think of your blog?

My friends love to giggle at it and make fun of it (but somewhere, deep deep down, I know they love it really. ) they were slightly impressed when they learnt that yes, actual people actually read it, and like it!
My family are into my blog, my parents work as editors and my grandparents as 'wow I love this'-ers.

6. What is your favorite activity to do in your free time?

I love wasting time. Just doing absolutely nothing! Shopping, blogging, writing, designing and just chatting are great too.

7. What type of art or arts are you interested in?

I admit it: I'm a doodler. If there is a pen in my hand, I can't keep it away from the paper (or my hands, or nearest mark able item - much to everybody else's annoyance!)
Trouble is, I can't actually draw too well, so I draw mainly squares and flowers (I know, odd choices) but without any detail.
When I'm not doodling, I'm designing - clothes, kitchens or shoes. I have a couple of great sketch books with outlines of people in and stencils that has really helped me to improve my drawing skills.
Otherwise, I'm a computer geek, and I love messing around with Pixlr (free online photoshop) and I also love photography, I have a whole app category dedicated to photography and effects - I think my favourite is iMagiCam or Polamatic.

8. What would you like to be/do when you're older and what attracts you to it?

I have three career choices: a pilot (I love to travel), a lawyer (I love to argue) or working in fashion (doing pretty much anything. I love it all!).

9. Are you a self-taught person or did you have someone teach you your skills? (sewing, instrument, any type of art)

When I was a kid, my mom appeared to always be making curtains (she probably only made about two pairs, though) on her old Singer Sewing Machine, and I guess I learnt the basics that way. I've also learnt a lot through textiles lessons, and just experimenting with everything I find.
I took flute and piano lessons for a couple of years each when I was younger, I no longer take lessons but I can still play!
Ive never really taken any kind of craft tutorials before, apart from what has shown up in school here and there, I just learn through observation and doing.

10. How long have you been arting for?

That's a pretty cool word! I've never really taken any craft seriously apart from my sewing, that for maybe a year or two. I've always doodled, but I'm not much good at sticking with projects for a long time.

11. Do you have any of your own creations? (this refers to practically anything)

My blog? Does that count? I'm in the process of creating a website for a lawyer relative, I occasionally come up with pieces of songs and stories, and I have made myself a dress, skirt and bodice before now.
Other than that, not, uh, really.

12. How did you start what you do?

I have no idea. A lot of what I do comes as a result of googling random things (probably not an excellent practice!) I had been thinking a bit about blogging for a little while, reading gossip girl and lots of teen vogue eventually resulted in my fashion blog!
I have always loved to write, though. Blogging is a great way for me to refine my skills in a public environment, while experimenting and seeing what people like and don't like, and learning all the time!
My family have always encouraged me to write, and my grandparents are great fans of my blog, always supporting me in what I do - thank you!

13. When it comes to designing are you more elaborate or plain?

Elaborate. Of course! If I can add colour, I will. If I can turn a dress into a wire based sculpture, I will. If I can print a book onto a flying T-shirt, I will.
I really like catwalk fashion because although you could never wear it on the street, it's such a feast for the imagination! The idea of turning clothes into a piece of art really appeals to me, I try to incorporate volume, wire, wood and as many unusual ideas as I can into each design. Everything I think of is completely impractical, both to make and wear - meaning I haven't made a single sketch come to life yet. Yet!

14. Have you heard of Project Runway?

I just googled it, and no, I didn't realise the tv show existed because it isn't aired here in the UK (that I'm aware of, anyway. ) However, there are lots of fashion 'kits' that are run by project runway, things like design boards, templates, sketchbooks with fashion 'tutorial' in, if that even exists. Now that I know the show exists I'm definitely going to try to watch it somehow, because it sounds pretty good!

15. Last but not least, do you have any advice for the people who need a little advice?

Wear what you are comfortable in. Always always, comfort comes first. Don't try to follow trends just because they are trends, wear what you like to wear. If that's jeans, great. If that's what's on trend, great. If you are obsessed with the fifties, great. Wear it, and if yo love it, others will too!

DIY: Banana Bread Chocolate Chip Muffins

We, the creators, created these marvelous muffins on the same day we made the tie dye cupcakes. One of our family members came home from school with a recipe from their culinary class so we were like "What the heck? Let's try this!" So we improvised with such little vanilla we had left (1/4 tsp) and made banana bread muffins (really a recipe for banana bread, but we made muffins instead) You take any banana bread recipe, but make sure that you mash the bananas and add chocolate chips! Simple! We also added chunks of chocolate if you didn't know (picture to the left). NOTE: If you are making muffins you are going to want to use a muffin/ cupcake tin not a bread tin so don't get confused. Happy crafting!

DIY: Dyed Cupcakes

Before
We created these DIY: Dyed Cupcakes with food coloring. You can use any old vanilla cupcake recipe. It's easy. You split the batter into the number of colors you want. Mix any color or even tie dye them like I did here! Then put them in the tin and watch them bake! You can make a surprise for the people who eat them by adding a color on the inside by layering! I gave one of my cupcakes to someone to eat and they were in utter amazement when they saw the purple on the inside of the orange cupcake! Also, if you are feeling a little extra crafty go to:  http://www.tasteofhome.com/recipes/easy-vanilla-buttercream-frosting
to make a delicious buttercream frosting (NOTE: vanilla extract is optional). Instead of the vanilla we replaced it with Hershey Chocolate Cocoa Powder to make chocolate buttercream frosting. After the frosting we made little sandwhiches with Milano cookies (they may not look pretty, but they taste great!). If you are feeling plain that is fine too! It is a great idea to make chocolate frosting if you have a sweet tooth! Happy crafting!

DIY: How to make cool Bow Tie/ Bow

This will show you how to make a cool bow or bow tie like the one to the left! Some sewing required.

1. Cut a rectangle of your desired cloth, preferably 3x6 inches  (although it depends how big you want your bow tie).

2. With the longer side of the rectangle parallel to you, fold both of the long sides in to the middle. (If needed, sew the sides down, it might make the following easier).

3. Now fold the shorter sides of the rectangle into the middle. Make sure your previous fold stays. You may want to sew this fold as well.

4. Pinch in the center of your soon-to-be bow tie and make sure to sew the pinch together. Finally, take a thin strip of different cloth (it can have the same pattern if desired), wrap it around the center of your bow tie and then sew on. Your Bow Tie is Complete!

DIY: Make a blanket-No sew needed

Get two pieces of fleece from your local fabric store.Any color and size will do. It depends on the size of the person. I recommend 3 square feet or 6 square feet. The choice is up to you to decide.Make sure each piece of fleece is the same size.Step 1:Put one fleece on top of the other.Step 2:Then cut lines 1 inch up.Step 3: Leave 1 inch across.Repeat steps 2 and 3. When finished cutting the perimeter of the fleeces, tie the inch rectangles together as shown below. This project can make a great gift for a baby shower, birthday, and house warming! This craft is also a great project to share with kids. For more information (if needed) on this project go to: http://familycrafts.about.com/od/nosewfleeceprojects/ss/fleecetieblank.htm

DIY: Do your nails, quick and easy

Put a clear base coat on your nails to protect your outer layer. Let it dry and then put a light blue color over. Use a pocka dotting tool to create the different color dots. Create the tuxedo with a thin black brush. You can cover some nails in sparkles if wanted. Cover in a clear top coat and let it dry.

DIY: Scarf Embellishing

Take an old scarf, such as the one to the right and use a hot glue gun to embellish it. You can use small sea shells, sequins, rhinestones, and any other small items you find to create a wonderful original scarf. No sewing needed. If needed ask someone for help with the glue gun and remember safety first.
Calling all artists! This blog is to show you just how many great art projects there are out there to do. All easy and simple and not to mention, fun!
